Today in BSD we watched a news report about Popcorn on BTN. We learnt that the outside of a popcorn kernel is called a husk.
Indie learnt that if the corn falls on the ground during harvest it must remain there and not be used. This is because the farmers do not want to collect any rocks in their harvest. If a rock is collected a child might be sitting in the movie and not notice that they have eaten a rock instead of a kernal.
Taneesha learnt that popcorn has been sold for a long time and after it is harvested it goes to a factory and then it is sent to the cinemas in New Zealand and Australia.
Todd learnt that the corn crops can be affected by floods and drought.
Jackson learnt that in Argentina popcorn is sold at a cheaper price which is affecting the Australian popcorn.
Daniel learnt that there is two different types of popcorn. One type of popcorn is called a butterfly and we eat that popcorn in the cinemas. The mushroom type popcorn is used in packets at the supermarket as it is stronger and will not get squished.
Bailey learnt that the reason pop corn pops is when heat warms up the water inside the kernel it steams up and then it forces the kernel to burst or pop.

Lucky ducks!! Where was my popcorn??
